Kowhai Charms

Acrylic – Canvas

200mm x 200mm

This artwork was inspired by our native forests and what lives within it. The Lovely Native Kowhai flowers that hang like wind charms and the very cheeky and cute Tui that I have a special love of.

These native birds of NZ, their name derives from the Maori language name ui and is the species formal common name. Tuis are considered to be very intelligent, much like parrots. They also resemble parrots in their ability to clearly imitate human speech. The Tui is also known for their noisy, unusual call different for each individual, that combine bellbird-like notes with clicks, cackles, timber-like creaks and groan and wheezing sounds.
