Braided Rivers

Acrylic Mixed media

400mm x 300mm

This Artwork was inspired by photographs I took while flying over the Rakaia River, which is in the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand’s South Island.

The Rakaia River is one of the largest braided rivers in New Zealand, as it rises in the Southern Alps travelling 150 Kilometres, in a generally easterly or south easterly direction, before entering the Pacific Ocean 50 kilometres south of Christchurch. I can’t help but be inspired by the overall power and beauty of nature and as I watched this river twist and turn its way to the sea I felt I had no other option but to recreate its beauty in this artwork.
